Arrest Made in Double Homicide at Ouachita National Forest
July 30, 2025 — Little Rock, Arkansas: Arkansas State Police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a couple who were hiking in the Ouachita National Forest over the weekend.
Authorities say the victims, a 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, both from Hot Springs, were found deceased on a remote trail near the Lake Sylvia Recreation Area late Sunday afternoon. Their names have not been released pending notification of family.
Investigation and Arrest
According to the Arkansas State Police, park rangers responding to a missing persons report discovered the bodies late Sunday evening. The couple had set out for a day hike on Saturday and failed to return by nightfall.
After a preliminary investigation, police identified a suspect based on surveillance footage from a trailhead parking lot and witness statements. The suspect, a 34-year-old male from Pulaski County, was apprehended without incident at his residence early Wednesday morning.
