Massive Search Operation Underway Along the Guadalupe River

July 12, 2025 – Seguin, Texas: Hundreds of volunteers and emergency personnel are intensifying efforts along the banks of the Guadalupe River in the wake of this week’s devastating flash floods that struck South Central Texas.

Search and rescue teams, joined by local residents and specialized K-9 units, have been scouring the riverbanks and adjacent low-lying areas since Thursday evening, after several people were reported missing following record rainfall that caused the river to overflow.

Flooding After Torrential Rains

The National Weather Service confirmed that over 11 inches of rain fell across the Guadalupe River basin in less than 24 hours, triggering rapid rises and sweeping away vehicles, campsites, and park structures. The city of New Braunfels, as well as smaller communities downstream, have been especially hard-hit.

  • At least four people remain unaccounted for as of Saturday morning.
  • Rescue operations have been complicated by swift currents and ongoing rainfall.
  • Authorities have closed portions of State Highway 46 and access to several river parks for public safety.

Coordinated Multi-Agency Response

The search effort is being coordinated by the Texas Department of Public Safety, local sheriff’s offices, and the American Red Cross. Drones equipped with infrared cameras are assisting teams in areas inaccessible by foot, while boats and helicopters patrol the river and surrounding floodplain.

“Our priority is bringing closure to the families affected,” said a spokesperson for the Guadalupe County Office of Emergency Management. “We urge residents to avoid the river and respect all closures while these operations continue.”

Community Support and Relief Efforts

Temporary shelters have been established at Seguin High School and First United Methodist Church for displaced residents. Relief organizations are providing meals, water, and mental health support to those impacted. Officials are reminding the public to monitor local alerts and to report any information about missing persons to law enforcement.

The National Weather Service has issued a continued flood watch for the region, with more rain forecast through Sunday. The search for the missing along the Guadalupe is expected to continue for several days, as water levels remain high and debris hampers access.
